Sierra Club

Sierra ClubThe Sierra Club is one of the oldest and most influential grassroots environmental organizations in the U.S. It was founded in 1892 by John Muir and is now 1.3 million members strong. The club works to protect communities, wild places, and the planet.

A primary focus of the club is people. It’s members help identify where the club’s work is focused. Members also exert direct influence working at the grassroots in all 50 states. The club emphasizes work at the state & local levels as part of a strategy to push for small & large steps that cumulatively add up to big change and pressure the federal government to adopt similar changes at the national level.

Currently, its three main initiatives are (1) to shift to safe, clean, smart energy solutions which will help fight global warming; (2) to protect wildlife habitats; and (3) to fight pollution in our air and water and other toxic threats to communities.
