Designed for utmost function as well as elegance, our new wine-rack sits securely on scrolled, recycled metal legs, holds eighteen bottles and features a handy detachable serving tray. Skilled artisans from a community project in Honduras hand-craft them one at a time from sustainable, fire-darkened sage wood. Proceeds from each rack help provide food and care for at-risk children, housing for elders and training and business loans for rural artisans.

Bottle Rim Bracelet

Waste not, want not. The last part of any glass bottle that gets recycled is its top rim-the part that holds the cap in place. Not the most glamorous part of the whole package, perhaps, but once the discarded rims caught the eye of our ingenious designer, she sanded and smoothed and transformed them into elegant jewelry. Suspended on silver links, the bottle rims take on new life as a clearly sensational necklace and adjustable bracelet.

Vintage Douglas Fir Table (72″) with Standard Delivery ($150 surcharge)

This splendid dining table displays the passion, perseverance and remarkable skill of one man with a vision-our master woodworker. To begin, from a salvage yard he rescued a torn-down building’s first growth Douglas fir lumber so that he could re-purpose its dense, hard grain and rich dark patina acquired from fifty to a hundred years of natural weathering. He then joined the two inch-thick planks with tongue-and groove construction and non-toxic glue. Next, he delicately planed them to create a smooth finish, and hand-rubbed in food-safe hard oil wax to ensure durability and bring out their vintage markings. No laminates, all original fir, and authentically beautiful. The table’s plank legs slip into channels, and can be bolted in place. Shipped flat with hardware and easy assembly instructions. Michael Aram’s handmade metalwork melds Eastern delicacy with Western substance, as well as classical and contemporary design motifs, in these highly distinctive bowls. His thatch bowls interlace recycled metal twigs so skillfully they appear to form nests that float on currents of air.

Horizon Night Light

For nearly two decades the Grays have operated a family run studio selling the art they create. This year, they’ve decided to focus on ecological awareness and we were captivated by the simple beauty of this night light, created entirely from fused glass recycled from bottles and containers. They call this project reborn glass and we think they’ve fulfilled their motto brilliantly: “a trash to treasure artistic endeavor.”

About 250 years ago, Sweden’s King Gustav visited France and returned with a passion for ornate French neoclassical design. Swedish woodworkers tossed out the frou-frou but wisely kept the striking and unusual arched, scalloped furniture silhouettes. Our reclaimed Douglas fir Gustavian headboard adds a contemporary green twist and honors the character of the rare first-growth fir used in its construction. Up to a century old, the rich hue, deep patina and tight grain of the wood – from razed buildings – simply cannot be duplicated in new timber. Our bed is hand-planed to smooth its finish while preserving the distinctive textural appeal of the fir’s knots, nail holes and weathering scars. Its light water-based stain, and hard oil wax, both eco-friendly, highlight the fir’s singular beauty. Made in USA. Please allow an additional 4 weeks for delivery.
